Everyone has different linkages, different styles of Governor, and different ways of adjusting them. Each manufacturer has a different way of moving the power valve. The Power Valve does this with centrifugal weights (Governor) that over come spring pressure and move the Power Valve Linkage. The power valve should be closed at Low RPM and Open at High RPM. It does this by keeping more of the fuel mixture in the cylinder, and out of the exhaust pipe, at lower RPM. By making the port smaller, the power valve helps make the power band wider. Big ports mean big horsepower, but they also mean narrow power band. A power valve is just a piece of metal that moves down and covers part of exhaust port making it smaller. The A and B model denotes whether or not the bike has been restricted down to a power output deemed necessary for a learner with a provisional drivers license in some countries or an A1 motorcycle license in the United Kingdom, The "A" models, running from 1986 to 2001 came from the factory in a unrestricted form, producing 20 bhp at the rear wheel easily reaching 85 mph with some modifications to the gearing ratio (sprockets).¶ Most if not all the two stroke race bikes sold now-a-days have a power valve in the exhaust port. They both feature front and rear disc brakes, water-cooled engines, mono link suspension (Kawasaki's Uni-Trak system) and a power valve system (KIPS). There are two versions, the KMX 125 cc and the larger 200 cc model under the KMX title.
